Einstein once said, “ The definition of insanity is doing the same thing over and over again and expecting different results.”

It is the poor who habitually elect Democrats …..yet they are still poor!

“You cannot help the poor by destroying the rich. You cannot strengthen the weak by weakening the strong. You cannot bring about prosperity by discouraging thrift. You cannot lift the wage earner up by pulling the wage payer down. You cannot further the brotherhood of man by inciting class hatred. You cannot build character and courage by taking away people’s initiative and independence. You cannot help people permanently by doing for them, what they could and should do for themselves.”

The Perfect Gun

October 25th, 2009

I have just added a gun to my concealed carry stable and in doing so I realized that there is no perfect gun. My normal carry gun is close …(for me) it is a Taurus Millennium Pro PT145. It has great stopping power … it is small as 45’s go … easy to conceal … shoots well … feels right …it’s a great gun! But on those days where it is hot, T-shirt and shorts weather or inside at a social event where a big gun just is not appropriate you need something else. It still needs to be reliable, have some stopping power and be concealable. For me the Ruger LCP fits that bill. It is light, points well and shoots well for such a small gun. I am very impressed with how well this gun shoots. The other thing I like about this gun is the way every edge is smothed out and softened, that means you can easely carry it in your pocket without fear of it snagging or catching if you should need to draw it quickly. There is a great article in the latest Combat Handguns Magazine (Dec 2009) writen by Cameron Hopkins titled “The One Gun Myth” and it really gets to the heart of the problem … there is no one perfect gun, you need several mission specific guns, and these guns must be right for you and your needs …. for me … one of those guns is the Ruger LCP … check it out at your local gun store!lcp2

Jack Burton says

jack burton says:
Chip sez: hot headed people with guns will use them especially if they have no form of restraint for having them.

Jack replies:

I hope you don’t spend much time in Las Vegas if you’re willing to bet such a poor hand.

Florida, the first state to pass the new wave of CCW laws about 30 years ago keeps a very close view on those same people. Their experience over the past years:

Crime rates involving CCW holders has held steady at about 0.02 percent.

Now, that’s any kind of crime including cheating on income taxes, which has nothing to do with a gun.

And 0.02 percent translates out to 2 people out of ten thousand. Not exactly the crime wave you are concerned about, eh?

Actually, out of the half million or so that Florida has issued they have cancelled 109. Virgina has issued about 50,000 and have cancelled none. Arizona has issued

about 63,000 and has cancelled none. Of course, since those reports came out they may have cancelled a few, but everyone gets the picture.

In Oregon only 4 people out of 14,000 (0.03 percent) have been convicted of a crime with a gun. In Texas out of a quarter million CCW holders only 100 have been

found guilty of a felony (not even necessarily with a gun). Again, that is only 1 people out of every 2500 CCW holders.

And in a column by Stephen Chapman of the Chicago Tribune he wrote:

Indiana, which has about 350,000 permit holders, canceled 921 last year, or about one-fourth of 1 percent of the total. Maj. Karen Butts, commander of the records

division of the state police, says, “I can’t think of any that were revoked for a firearms homicide.” Among Utah’s 40,000 licensees, only five have lost their privileges

because of a conviction for murder or attempted murder.

And Tennessee has had this same identical experience.

BTW… all this can be found in the free downloadable Gun Facts book at http://www.gunfacts.info.

If you’re truly interested in getting the facts instead of hysterical info this is the place to go.

I feel sorry for California

September 29th, 2009

I feel sorry for our brothers to the south, there is the traffic and the smog. Also there is such a strong anti-gun movement …. there is a bill on the Govenors desk that would require you to be finger printed to buy ammo … That same group of law makers just released 27,000 known felons … Do you think they are going to be finger printed to get their ammo … no … they only finger print the victims down there … Here is the article …

North County Times columnist Dennis Clausen (Sept. 21) disapproves of local citizens exercising their right to carry handguns openly, albeit on a California-modified basis. He opines that the lawful manner in which these men and women bear witness to the basic human right of self-defense is irresponsible and may offend some people’s sensibilities. It apparently bothers a few “progressive” writers that some gun owners are not taking their seats at the back of the bus anymore.

Clausen recalls growing up in a rural Minnesota community where he learned gun safety and marksmanship from World War II veterans, adding that these men never felt compelled to wear a sidearm openly to prove an ideological point. I wonder if he has ever considered that the vets he knew liberated countries where only the military and police carried guns and the subject populations weren’t even allowed a shotgun or rifle.

I learned respect for firearms from a number of veterans, including my father, and earned a marksmanship merit badge in the Boy Scouts. One of Troop 139’s training sites was a 15-yard small bore rifle range under the gymnasium at North Hollywood High. Given the long term-political drift in California the range that trained so many young people in marksmanship and gun safety is probably gone. It’s all about social conditioning. In Mr. Clausen’s old neighborhood, two kids hiking with their .22 rifles to the boondocks to bag rabbits or plink at cans wouldn’t raise an eyebrow. In suburban Los Angeles or San Diego they’d be fodder on the six o’ clock news.

For the past three decades elitist elements in the California Legislature have orchestrated a culture war of disinformation and oppression against law-abiding gun owners with the full cooperation of a Fourth Estate that also disdains the right of ordinary citizens to self-defense. Incessant media hype of high profile political assassinations, mass shootings and gang warfare has facilitated an escalating assault on the right to bear arms.

On the governor’s desk today is a bill, AB 962 (De Leon, D-L.A.) that would require California residents to sign and be fingerprinted for ammunition purchases at local sporting goods and gun stores and ban catalog and Internet ammunition sales. There’s another novel crime solution from the progressive geniuses in the Legislature —- stopping gang bangers by restricting ammo sales to their intended victims.

Forty states in the Union have shall-issue concealed carry laws that allow citizens of good standing to carry a concealed handgun for self-defense. On average these states have more than 20 percent less violent crime than states that discourage concealed carry. Citizens may be required to undergo a training course, but the local police chief or sheriff cannot subjectively deny a permit on a “needs” basis, as is the case in California.

If California had a shall-issue policy, the open carry matter would be a moot point, but AB 357 was killed by the same radicals in the Legislature who recently approved the early release of 27,000 convicted felons.

Stick Together!

September 16th, 2009

There is one thing I have learned in my life and that is, especially in times like this … We need to stick together!  One way to do that is to hang out electronically with like minded people…. Here is a very good way to do that.  Here is a forum for people interested in their Oregon CCL.  It is located in Lane County Oregon but it could be anywhere.  These are good guys and you should go there and check it out.  If you find it interesting (and I did) join the conversation, ask what you want and help with answers when you can.  One of the people on the forum is the “Rangemaster”.  He is a gunsmith and has a very cool gun store.  I have been to the Rangemaster’s gun store, it is a great place.  It even has two recliner chairs so you can just sit down and talk.  The Administrator of the forum is a good guy and works hard on the forum.  You should get in there and join in the conversation.  Here is the web address http://www.lanecountychl.proboards.com/index.cgi?
